Timberwolves Win With Team Effort

Just when the team needed each team member to make a contribution, the Timberwolves delivered. The Wolves ended up defeating the Los Angeles Lakers 117-107 at the Target Center because nearly each player had a big play. This was the second consecutive game that the Timberwolves had a double overtime.

Just two days before the Lakers’ game, the Wolves lost to Boston in double overtime. This is time round, the Wolves were certain that they would not lose the game.

Late in the fourth quarter, Mark Blount netted in a three pointer and that brought the Wolves back into contention. Ricky Davis helped to extend the game two time; first with free throws at the end of the fourth quarter and then in the first overtime with a putback.

In the double overtime, Randy Foye, Rashad McCants ensured that the Wolves won the game. This was despite Kobe Bryant of the Lakers scoring 40 points. The Wolves were supported by Marko Jaric who returned to the starting lineup after a year.

Coach Randy Wittman was please with his team’s performance and he said that each team member contributed in the game. The most acrobatic play in the game came from Foye when he netted in a miss by Kevin Garnett when just 1:27 was left in the second overtime. Foye jumped high and used his left hand to guide the ball into the basket and this put the Wolves 111-107 ahead.

Before this game, in this entire season, Blount had scored just 5 three pointers and he nearly doubled this during two minutes of play. Before Blount netted in his first three pointer, the Wolves were behind by six points. He then netted in another one to reduce the margin to points and his third three pointer brought the score up to 97-96 when there were just 47.7 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
