Los Angeles Lakers center Chris Mihm is recovering from off-season surgery on his right ankle. His rehab is showing good results enough for him to let him to some running and to participate in more basketball drills at practice on Wednesday.
Mihm played in only one game after injuring his ankle on March 12th in a game against Seattle. Since then, the player has been in recovery. During the last weeks, his status has looked better and better. There has been definitely a lot of progress. The coaching and medical staff is going on a day-by-day with the player increasing his efforts a little every day.
Mihm announced that he will not be able to play on Thursday night when the Lakers face the SuperSonics in their second pre-season game. He explained that his goal remains to play in at least one pre-season game before the season opener Oct. 31st against Phoenix. He will not try to get back on the floor too early. The player explained that he prefers to take additional days or weeks to feel at his maximum and to avoid also exaggerating his injure preventing him to play before a longer period. Patience is often required. Mihm knows it since his long recovery.
Mihm is not the only player to be expected on the floor for the start game. Bryant, who had right knee surgery on July 15th and was scheduled to be out eight to 12 weeks, is currently dong his come-back on the floor for the practice. It is still unlikely that he would be able play in two exhibition games next week but Bryant hopes like Mihm to play in at least one before the season begins on Oct. 31st.
Lakers guard Sasha Vujacic, who recorded 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting during a 94-79 victory over the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night in Fresno, has also been injured. He suffered a bruised left foot. However, Vujavic is expected to play against Seattle.
